On the way to Sanibel Island we stopped at the Thomas Edison & Henry Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers, FL. The Edison home was built in 1886 near Fort Myers. All materials for the house were pre-cut and shipped by schooner from Maine to the site as there was no other means to get that amount of lumber there.
Edison spent the winter months here and Henry Ford, Edison's good friend, would visit him for two weeks every year.

Model T and Model A. Ford would have the mechanic do test drives in Fort Myers.
Edition and his wife loved a great variety of plants.
Edison was always working and had a lab on site. What a genius Edison was! He has 1093 patents. He sold his first patent, the stock ticker, at the age of 24 for $40,000.
Ford and Edison wanted to develop a rubber source. They tried several plants including goldenrod. But none of these experiments were successful.
We are with Thomas Edison and his huge Banyan tree.

As we were parking in our site at Periwinkle RV Park we saw a Roadtrek across from us. We visited with Stacy and Charlie Nashville, TN. Then it was off to the beach which was walking distance from our site. We strolled the beach looking for shells. We decided to go out to was at the Lazy Flamingo, which was walking distance from our site. We both had a grouper sandwich, which were very good.
