On the Road Again Thursday Feb. 17 but not till it stopped raining. A little shower passed by 7:45 to 8:15 am. As it was fading we were blessed with a rainbow! At Shark Valley in the Everglades National Park we did the 15 mile loop bike ride. Phil rented a bike because his had a flat and still wanted to do the ride. It took us three hours to do the 15 miles, but the first 4 miles were stop and go for photo-ops. We saw SO many alligators. Some were in the water and others in the grass near the side of the road. We were all very cautious around them, not wanting to aggravate them. We also saw turtles, anginas, herons, ibis and egrets. After 7 miles there was an observation tower. Atop the tower we could see for miles. Even with a good deal of sun screen we got a good amount of tanning or "pinking" (not burn) today.
Hope you can enlarge this. Can you count 6 baby alligators?
Anhingas have to spread their wings to dry in the sun after they have been in the water.
A turtle sunning himself.
A heron crossing the road 3 feet in front of me.
An alligator on a trail people usually walked. Don't think anyone was going to walk on that trail today.
More baby alligators.
What a phenomenal experience, but cautious.
Then it was on the way to Flamingo Campgrounds in the southern Everglades. We stopped for fuel and food. As we pulled into the parking lot of Flamingo we were delighted to see a familiar Roadtrek with TN. license plates on. Sure enough, Stacie and Charlie who camped across from us on Sanibel Island. Again small world.
