OR & CA 12/28-1/7/2016

On the road again Monday Dec. 28.  It was good to spend time with family but it feels good to be on the road again.  We stayed overnight at Flying J,  Aurora, OR.

On the road again Tuesday Dec. 29
We stopped to marvel at the elk at the Corvallis Wildlife Preserve. We camped at Siulaw National Forest near North Bend, OR.  It was rainy on and off which gave us a change to nap and relax.  After the pressure of getting our house ready to go on the market, the sale, cleaning out the house and then traveling to the West coast....it is great to have the afternoon to relax.

Not on the road but hiking on Wednesday Dec. 30.
A benefit of the rain yesterday the sand was compacted and easier to walk on.
It was awesome, beautiful weather and good to be out in the fresh air.
And there's the Pacific Ocean.  But we didn't pack a lunch  so we gazed from afar.  The hiking trail started near our campsite in Siulaw National Forest.

On the road again Thursday Dec. 31.  This has been a year of huge changes for us.
Driving along the Pacific coast is always beautiful especially when the sun is shining.

We camped at Jedidiah Smith Park near Crescent City.

On the road again Friday Jan. 1. Redwoods are just spectacular.  We spent over a week in this area in Oct. 2012.  So we continued on down the road looking for warmer weather.

We attended Mass at St Joseph's in Crescent City.  The priest gave a very interesting & long homily.  We had a delicious lunch at Los Compadres.
Dueling at Elk Prairie Campground in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park near Orick, CA
Mule deer.  (taken with my phone, so clarity is not there, but kinda looks like water color.)
It was 28 degrees overnight but our furnace kept us toasty warm.

On the road again Saturday Jan. 2.  Phil took a shower in the campgrounds unheated bathroom.  I took a pass. What a surprise to see so many elk resting in an open meadow near Trinidad, OR.

As we traveled it was gorgeous to see the clouds among the hills.
We attended Mass at St Agnes Catholic Church, Zamora, CA.  This quaint old country church was   dedicated in 1909.  The floors squeaked endearing the place and service to my heart.

We stayed overnight at a Flying J near Lodi, CA.

On the road again Sunday Jan 3 to Barstow, CA to watch the Packers play the Vikings.  We watched a game here last year.  But the turn out wasn't as good.  The Packers lost this time.  We stayed overnight at the Flying J truck center.

On the road again Monday Jan. 4 to Joshua National Park.  It was gorgeous and sunny when we were at the visitors center.  After lunch at our campsite I looked out the RV window and see all these quail.

Love the amazing Jumbo Rocks campground.
We had planned on hiking on Tuesday Jan. 5 but it rained or misted all day and evening.
On the road again Wednesday Jan. 6.  We had thought about going to the Escapee Park near Aguanga, CA.  We were there last year at Christmas and loved the park.  But I looked up the temperatures.  It was going to be 41 for the high so we changed our plans.  And we saw a rainbow....a blessing.
We stayed overnight at Anza Borrego Park.  In the desert but a misty drizzly evening.
On the road again Thursday Jan. 7 Beautiful sunshine in the morning.
Amazing life size metal sculptures dot the area.
We only saw some of the 130 intriguing sculptures.

Beautiful scenery and sky as we travel through the Park.

We stayed at the Kofa Escapee Park outside of Yuma.
