Gautier, MS, 2/18 to 2/23/2014

On the road Friday Feb. 21 it was 53 overnight. There was a big hard rainstorm overnight. We awake to crisp, sunny not-humid day.
This Escapee Park has a lot of activities.  One of them is caning chairs.  They auction off many of the chairs and rockers. The money supports the Escapees Care facility.   I have two caned chairs of my parents.  One needs repair...I have to do that someday.

We after setting up at our campsite at Shepard City Park, Gautier, MS.
We visited with other Roadtrekkers.
Mike has a "drone type" camera and took this picture of Jennifer and his and our sites.

We joined our Gautier, MS. hosts; Pogo and Vicki and 20 other Roadtrekkers at Country Gentleman for dinner.  Sharon, Jim and Stephanie rode with us.  I had broiled flounder, very good.  Phil had a gyro, something they are famous for.  Also very good

On the road again Saturday Feb. 22 by escort to Pogo's home for Smoking' on the Bayou.
He says just a couple turns down the bayou is the Gulf of Mexico.

 Pogo rings the dinner bell.

 There's a vacant lot 2 doors away.
So it got filled with Roadtreks.
The Mayor of Gautier, MS is Pogo and Vicki's neighbor (blue visor) and we all got to chat with him.  We also took a walk in the neighborhood past lots where homes were not rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina.

We had to caravan by 5:45 to the parade site before they closed the streets. Gautier, MS is about 20,000 Pogo said. Whenever we caravanned I think it's neat to see our vehicles traveling together.

Gautier's fountain depicts wildlife of the area.

The parade didn't start till 7:30 so lots of time for visiting.
Vendors hacking their goods before the parade starts.
 Police start the parade.

We haven't been to a Mardi Gras parade before. We thought Gautier did terrific.  And we got LOTS of beads, moon pies and other goodies.

Back at the campsite Phil set up our fire pit and the visiting continued.

On the road again Sunday Feb. 23  We had rain overnight and on and off all day.
to Mass at St. Mary's in Gautier.
Beautiful stained glass windows of the Stations of the Cross.

 Stunning wall hanging.
Caravanning again.
 To the Biloxi Lighthoouse.
It was planned for us to do the 3 mile walk on the Biloxi Bridge, Ocean Spring,
but the rain put a nix on that plan.
Pogo and Vicki brought left over meat, beans etc. & insisted that we all take some.
This family was determined to go in the water  And they did.
Oops.  We pulled in the parking lot the wrong direction.
The lighthouse would have been in the photo if we parked facing the other direction.

Mike our comedian at Blue Fly Inn
The gang for lunch at Blow Fly Inn.  But missing 3 who had to leave early Sunday.  I had one of their famous burgers. It was the best I remember having. Phil had the seafood special.

Phil got out our fire pit again. We had 18 Roadtrekkers sharing stories and enjoying the delicious apple cake Lisa left for us. Thanks so much.
