Portland, OR., 10/6 & 7/12

On the road again Saturday Oct. 6 b train to downtown Portland.

Hanging out with the family. Deborah, Corrina, Allison and Jeanne are being amused by Gabby.

We attended Mass at St Michael the Archangel Church. The celebrant said he had a tough summer with many concerns. He said he did a lot of complaining and now....he is done complaining. His homily encouraged us to try for 21 days...no complaining, no gossip and not criticism. Not even floral criticism. Very challenging.

The families enjoyed great dinners at Caffe Mingo.

Allison, Ted and Corrina.

Gabby was sleeping during most of the dinner.

We stayed again at Fairview RV Park,Gresham, OR.

On the road again Sunday at 5:05 to the train station. At the station talked to a guy from Gresham who was doing the Half Marathon as a walker. On the train talked to two young women who were running the Marathon and were in the 3 hr. 10 min. Corral like Ted and Rusty.

The beginning of the Portland Marathon at 7 am.

The first runners. Too dark to get a good focus. Also too many runners to get a photo of Ted and Rusty in the beginning. But what a thrill to spot them, yell encouragement and Ted signaled he heard.

Thousands of runners and walkers. We rushed to three different locations to see Ted and Rusty and shout our encouragement.

Corrina and Phil

Jeanne, Allison and Pete with the blur of runners passing.

With the crowd of runners it was amazing I got photo of Deborah and Gabby. I was at an island in the middle of the street so I could see Ted as he headed west and came back east.

Some of the wheelchair marathoners were really fast.

Ted nearing the end of the race. He cramped up at the 17 mile mark so that really slowed him. He finished in 3 hours 28 minutes. What a GREAT accomplishment for his first Marathon.

Rusty finished in 3 hours 13 minutes.

Ted refreshed after a shower sporting a well earned shirt! We are so proud of you, Ted and Rusty.

We returned by train to our RV parked at Gresham and drove to Aurora, OR. We spent the night at Travel America Center.
