Talkeetna & Anchorage, 7/5/14

On the road again Saturday July 5

Before leaving our campground....one more look at this amazing mountain range.
Another look at the mountain range as we drive into Talkeetna.

Aurora Dora does amazon photography work.
Found a few moose around town.

 A unique town.

One of the mountains near Denali.

We visited Kahiltna Birchworks where they harvest and produce birchwood syrup.
Interesting to learn about their process.
Phil's sister and brother-in-law make maple syrup so we wanted to learn about this.
They rank the syrups by day of gathering the sap.  We had a taste of the first, middle and last harvesting.   Sweet to little sweetness.  We had a coupon for one free ice cream.  Phil had Birchwood ice cream and I had fireweed and honey.  Both were very good.

Snowshoes they wear when the snow is deep.
Anchorage Visitors Center.  Flowers grow so beautifully with the abundant sunshine.
Stopped in a quilt shop.  Marvelous work.
We attended Mass at Holy Family Cathedral.
Pope John Paul II visited here on Feb. 26, 1981.
Visited some art stores on our way to our rv.

Talented artist make these fossilized whale bones into charming creatures.

Downtown Anchorage with Hard Rock Cafe and the mountains in the distance.

We stayed at the Municipal Campgrounds in Anchorage.  The bathrooms need some updating.

We visited with Wayne and Cathy, Roadtrekkers from Whitehorse, Yukon, a great couple with so many stories. It's always interesting to visit with residents who live where it gets to minus 40 or 50 degrees (C.) in the winter.  It got to be a later night than we thought.  Gotta sleep fast!
