Painted Churches of TX 1/30/2015

On the road again Friday Jan. 30.  Happy birthday to our son, Gene.
Nativity of Mary, Blessed Virgin seems like an ordinary church.  2833FM 2762, Schulenberg, TX
Entrance lobby
But once inside we were blessed with stunning painted ceiling and walls and reverent statues.  Thee churches are in farmland east of San Antonio.  They were built by the immigrants ro remind them of the churches they left behind.

St Joseph Altar
Blessed Virgin Altar
Even the underside of the second floor is elaborately painted.
My home parish had a statue similar to this.  It is always meaningful when I see it.

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church  7745 Mensik, Schulenberg, TX

Can you see something(s) that would define this as the men's side?
 The women's side

St. Cyril and Methodius Church FM 1383, Dubina, TX

The churches were hard to pinpoint.  The town of Dubina is only a little hamlet.  The GPS doesn't recognize it.  With perservence we were able to find 3 of these beautiful churches.  The Chamber of Commerce of Schulenberg offers guided tours but arrangement have to be made 2 weeks ahead of time.  We rarely know where we will be day to day to say nothing of 2 weeks ahead.

We arrive at Gene and Yvonne's in Cypress about 3 pm.

We went out to eat to celebrate Gene's birthday.  Good to be with family.
